Can you copy xbox 360 games without mod?

Q. I know that the xbox 360 reads licensing and security codes off of the disk. But, in theory, if the game was installed on your hard drive, couldn't you insert a disk with JUST the licensing and security codes for the game, without having to burn the whole game or install mod chips or flash your drive? I know nothing about this stuff, this was just an idea that I wondered if it was possible.

A. Xbox game executable (*.xex) files can only be run from "Xbox Media" (Proper game discs). The firmware on the Xbox 360's DVD drive handles the job of checking the inserted disc to see if it is "Xbox Media" or not. There are many checks in place, such as AP2.5 (Anti Piracy 2.5) which checks the physical location of files on the disc. If the system challenges the disc and the challenge fails, the Xbox is flagged for a ban on Xbox live and the Xbox refuses to run any code from the disc. Thus the game has to be a direct 1:1 copy with AP2.5 patches.

If I burn a backup of an x-box 360 game without using a mod will i still get banned?
Q. If i burn a backup copy of an xbox 360 game i own and play the backup disc in the console am i still at risk for being banned? I will not be using a MOD chip in the console.

A. It wont boot

You have to either have the drive chipped, or flash the DVD drive with custom firmware to make the game load.

Great tutorials for that can be found at se7ensins.com

Of course, you will run the risk of being banned

Can burn xbox 360 games and play them without modding the xbox?
Q. I heard somewhere that you can burn and play xbox 360 games without modding your xbox system. Is this true? if it is, what are good sites with instructions to do this or websites with games?

A. No, you must mod your 360 if you want to play burned games. Modding your 360 then means you can never go online, so it's rather pointless...especially since it's not hard to find legitimate used copies of games for $15-20, not to mention things like GameFly.
